IRCC creates transition period for distance learning measures

IRCC creates transition period for distance learning measures

Measures for distance learning have been extended to August 31, 2023.International students were permitted to complete their coursework online while residing overseas throughout the epidemic and were still qualified for a post-graduation work visa (PGWP).

International students will have time to return to Canada by August 31, 2023, according to a statement released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on August 25.

Prior to August 31, 2022, international students studying abroad or those who apply for a study permit can continue to complete up to 100% of their programmer online without it compromising their eligibility for a PGWP.

Before the pandemic, students had to conduct no more than 50% of their coursework online, and any time spent studying outside of Canada counted against their PGWP time limit. However, regardless of when their studies started, any study done overseas after September 1, 2023, will be subtracted from the length of their PGWP.

Students beginning programmers between September 1, 2022, and August 31, 2023 will be impacted by the extension of the temporary distance learning measures. The following restrictions will be in place: - To be qualified for a PGWP, no more than 50% of the credits earned can be completed outside of Canada.

- Beginning on September 1, 2023, studies conducted online from locations outside of Canada will be subtracted from the duration of a subsequent PGWP.Some international students may not get their application approved in time to start their studies in person for the fall 2022 intake session, even though the Canadian government will give priority to applications for study permits for students starting their studies in September.
